Breakup the burnout

Let’s face it sometimes we just need a break and something to do to “kill some time.” While I have been very busy working on some much needed business tasks, burnout is real. To avoid getting bored, I’ve been reading stories at noon to kids and then doing a nightly trivia live for adults at 10:00. It’s been a great way to keep my mind busy, BUT sometimes you just need something that doesn’t require a lot of thinking. I’ve compiled a list of some popular bingeworthy shows, books and movies that may help you purposefully plan your brain breaks.  

Movie Series:

The Skywalker Saga- 25 hours and 55 minutes, 9 films

Now that the final installment, “Rise of Skywalker” is available for home entertainment, fans have the opportunity to watch the entire Skywalker story from beginning to end. While some of the most loyalist fans would argue on the correct order to watch the series, the run time for all three trilliogies combined is a total of 20 hours and 45 minutes.  You could add Rogue One and Solo films to bring it to a whopping 25 hours and 55 minutes if you’re really wanting to be thorough. 

Lord of the Rings and Hobbit with bonus content- 21 hours and 4 minutes, 8 films

The Lord of the Rings trilogy was a hit during the early 2000’s.  If you watch the extended editions all three movies would take you 11 hours and 36 minutes to view. (totally worth it though) If you add the prequel trilogy you would you can add 9 hours and 28 minutes to your viewing time. Total hours spent: 21 hours and 4 minutes.

The Entire Walt Disney Animated Film Library- 81 hours, 58 movies

This took some dedication to add up, but I finally came to a number. With a total of 4,871 minutes, this is probably the ultimate time killer. I will say, that you can definitely notice the change in movie length over the years. During the bronze age, most of the films were about 79 minutes long. More recent films like Frozen II and Ralph Wrecks the Internet last almost two hours.

Harry Potter Series- 20 hours, 8 movies

Books:

If you’re looking for something a little bit more academically challenging, what about a book? Here are a few classic books with their averaged reading time. While some may be able to read more quickly than others these times are based upon their average reader. 

Anna Kerinina- 23 hours and 3 minutes

Les Miserables- 13 hours and 48 minutes

The Count of Monte Cristo- 25 hours and 3 minutes

Don Quixote- 22 hours and 9 minutes

War and Peace- 38 hours and 48 minutes

A Tale of Two Cities - 9 hours and 39 minutes

Chronicles of Narnia- book series- 12 hours 48 minutes

TV Shows

With streaming available for pretty much any television show nowadays, you may want to consider starting a new series during this “Quarantime.” The benefits of streaming a tv series over a movie would be the shorter commitment time for each segment. Watching one I Lucy episode is only about 25 minutes long, compared to a three hour Lord of the Rings movie. I’ve compiled a list of some of the more popular series and included their run time and where you can stream them. 

Law and Order SVU- 21 seasons, 355 hours (and counting) available to stream on hulu

CSI- 15 seasons, 308 hours*, available to stream on hulu or with a CBS subscription

ER- 15 seasons, 248 hours, available on hulu

Friends- 10 seasons, 86 hours, available nowhere because Netflix is mean. Lol

Walker Texas Ranger- 8 seasons, 200 hours, amazon pay per episode

I Love Lucy- 6 seasons, 33 hours, Best of Compilations available on Amazon prime and hulu

The Andy Griffith Show- 8 seasons, 104 hours, available on Netflix and Amazon prime

The Office- 8 seasons, 73 hours, available on Netflix

Stay Well. Stay Strong. Stay Safe.

While I only mentioned a few option, the ultimate goal is to stay safe at home. Yes, this is a great time to learn and grow, but sometimes you just need something to take your mind off of things. I hope this post was at least been entertaining, and maybe help you decide what will be your next "quarantime." I'm sharing a few of my favorite themes that coordinate with some of these shows. *The run time for CSI varies from 40 to 64 minutes. I used 55 minutes for my numbers.
